You’re already in a far superior – non-corporate, federated – space. Do not sign up for W. And warn your friends. The only time you have any power to stop this is now. this is a psa , if you visit a website that offers to let you sign in with atmosphere/bluesky you should click the little question mark in the top right. if it says "transition:generic", that app can do ANYTHING with the data in your account, short of dms and actually deleting/moving your account..
Can you really leave Substack? Substack was built on the promise that creators could leave whenever they wanted, taking their audience & payments with them. Then they built an app, started processing payments through Apple & Google Pay, & now if you leave, you lose everything.

* Not so much “quit” as “you probably shouldn’t move to/sign up for” (just following my naming convention in this “series”). To be clear, I think it’s (probably) totally fine that it exists as an option (unless the potential security concerns turn out to be relevant), but personally I would advise against choosing that option based on what I’m learning. I’m sure it’s a good choice for some people, just probably not anyone I know
