Women in STEM Program - Henry Luce Foundation
Through the Clare Boothe Luce Program for Women in STEM and STEM Convergence, we aspire to close the gender gap in the field, broaden the participation of women from diverse backgrounds, and advance women-led STEM innovation for positive social change.

A Beginner's Guide to Culture Science
Also known as "memetics", it's the study of the narratives that shape human behavior, and how they propagate & evolve

Culture & truth : the remaking of social analysis
xii, 253 pages ; 22 cm; Argues for a new approach to thinking and writing about culture. Exposing old conceptions, the book argues that new ethnographic writing must come to terms with the dynamic nature of social reality - with history, spontaneity, and human emotions; Originally published: Boston: Beacon, 1989; Includes index; Self-Renewing 2017; Includes index

The Social Construction of Facts and Artefacts: or How the Sociology of Science and the Sociology of Technology might Benefit Each Other
The need for an integrated social constructivist approach towards the study of science and technology is outlined. Within such a programme both scientific facts and technological artefacts are to be understood as social constructs. Literature on the sociology of science, the science-technology relationship, and technology studies is reviewed. The empirical programme of relativism within the sociology of scientific knowledge and a recent study of the social construction of technological artefacts are combined to produce the new approach. The concepts of `interpretative flexibility' and `closure mechanism', and the notion of `social group' are developed and illustrated by reference to a study of solar physics and a study of the development of the bicycle. The paper concludes by setting out some of the terrain to be explored in future studies.

Why Psychology Hasn’t Had a Big New Idea in Decades
Can our field get its act together?

From @mkarhulahti.bsky.social, me, @nballou.bsky.social, and Ivan Ropovik, newly accepted at Collabra: Psychology. This concerns a Nature: Human Behavior publication on the impacts of a Chinese anti-gaming policy. The paper has serious flaws making its results unsupportable. osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/n2rka_v4

osf.ioThere is something to @benjaminjriley.bsky.social 's ways educators see the "science of learning". I think the SoL is a term more popular in the US. This post could have been the same in the UK as a way educators talk about "cognitive science". buildcognitiveresonance.substack.com/p/the-science-of-learning-tax…
The Science of Learning Taxonomy
buildcognitiveresonance.substack.comRemarkable how over a decade ago @michaelnielsen.bsky.social pointed the way towards solving long standing issues plaguing science to this day (issues that are all the more relevant in the age of AI mediated science)

This is why @atproto.science is so relevant rn This compilation of essays indicates that scientists are most frustrated by insufficient “community tools and resources... Essential infrastructure for sharing, maintaining and building on existing work and data is also badly underdeveloped." >

Why do people trust physicists and biologists more than economists or sociologists? In a new paper out in Public Understanding of Science, @hugoreasoning.bsky.social and I argue that it has to do with perceived precision and consensus. doi.org/10.1177/09636625261471051
Sciences perceived as precise and consensual are more trusted - Jan Pfänder, Hugo Mercier, 2026
doi.orgOne thing I've been dwelling on is how computing engineering and discourse rely thoroughly on a substance ontology of information, with dumb consequences. I've just found out that @romainbrette.bsky.social, looking at the same in neuroscience, calls it "epistemic phlogiston." I'm so stealing that.
